Crit #1

My group today gave me some compliments and some helpful feedback.  was also given some really cool ideas for the background of my piece with a girls face. I was told by Steph that maybe I should add a background that is smaller so it looks like the girl is unclose to a camera. A suggestion to make a big piece using glass and mirrors was also an idea. I really liked looking at other peoples art work and hearing their ideas because it kind of inspired me to make some new projects. It was cool to see their thought process and give them feedback and project ideas.

Update Jan 29

I feel like this week has been productive. I started a new project because I was bored of my first piece and wanted a break. Now I am working on a drawing of a face with sunglasses made of broken CD parts. I love spending time on the detail of a shadow but it can also drive me crazy. I don't know what I want to do with the background but I don't want it to take away from the face. Sometimes I get carried away and add that extra unnecessary-ness.

New Art

The New Art documentary really was eye opening. Each of the artists work was very inspiring and were kind of similar to one another. I noticed a lot of paint, triangles and lines. I also saw how an artist uses the installation space to make their art. The art all looked pretty tedious with a deep meaning. The pieces were all pretty abstract and that could be why it is "new art." It was amazing to see how much detail and time was put into a certain piece and cool to see all the materials used in the process. Each of the artist had interesting words to say. I was also interested in seeing what artist made what.

Imagining the 2014 studio

I have imagined my work in the studio since I first heard about it as a freshman. I imagine making a large pice that is in the center of a wall. I have wanted to make a big painting because I have been inspired by Nandini's and Isabelle English's art. I have always pictured just one big piece but am now thinking a large piece with smaller ones surrounding it. I usually like to incorporate many materials in my art but I think I would make a painting and later add mixed materials as finishing touches. I have also been writing ideas on a sticky note of art projects I have wanted to do so I think I may think about those. I am very excited but also feel a little anxious as to what I may make. I have so so so many idea that I think it will be hard to choose.

I was really inspired by some of the pieces at the museum. I was really into the installation with the different colored plexiglass. It made me want to sit in there for hours just watching the reflections that each shape made when a certain light hit it. I would like to try and do something like this but the whole installation part could be tricky. I also liked some other pretty basic plaid paintings on the back of glass. I liked how the artist decided to use glass so when it was turned around the glass would give a shiny look over the paint.

Keltie Ferris and Chuck Close

I really enjoyed these videos. I didn't think I would be inspired by an artist video but these proved me wrong. At first when looking at Kelties work before she was finished I was not a huge fan. As she added more paint and designs of layers I began to see a totally different painting than before. The final products turned out to be so cool that I even googled her and want to try to make work similar to hers using some of her techniques.

Chucks paintings are SO cool. I would LOVE to make something big like that painted in different sections like he did. It seems like it is so tedious and challenging but is something I also want to try to do.

The Future

During the next month of Senior Studio I really hope to make lots of different kinds of art. Currently I am working on a piece that is taking more time than expected. Although I want to make a lot of pieces with such limited time, I do not want to rush this one because I really like it. I want to make a lot of other little canvases using different materials I wouldn't normally use.
