MFA

This past weekend I decided to go to the MFA. I thought it would be a good place where I could get inspiriting for my final project. The first thing I saw was the gorgeous jewelry which I thought was so beautiful. I then walked throughout the european art and found myself hating the big portraits of the typical woman in a big dress holding her baby. I don't know why but I really just don't like these dark and kind of depressing pictures but it might be because they all seem to look them same with the same facial expression. I also walked by these little etches that were so teeny tiny and so detailed. When I was through with the european art I eagerly wanted to see the contemporary art section. I was immediately struck by this massive silver sculpture that was crinkled and was a rectangle. I liked this because it reminded me of the photos I reblog on my personal tumblr page. I also liked the glitz factor to it. When I saw the contemporary art section I was disappointed on how small it was but it was filled with great works of art so I suppose its alright. I did LOVE some certain pieces and even saw a work of one of the artists (Chuck Close) we had talked about which was really cool. I was happy to have seen a really interesting piece made by Jason Middlebrook who uses paint, glam, and wood into his pieces which I can relate to. I am now kind of obsessed with him and am inspired to use paint, pencil, glam and wood in my project.

Art and Fear

  • Craft is described more as objects that are used such as couches and clothes. It can be perfected unlike art. Art is something that doesn't really become perfected in a sense but still has the idea of craft incorporated in it.
  • I as an artist I think I have many styles. I think a lot of my styles has changed over the years but I think overall my style includes many different materials. I used to mainly paint and draw designs but now I have learned how to draw faces and sometimes mix these different things into one piece.
  • Habits are yours. Just like a habit your style is also yours.

Check in Feb 11

I have started to draw a new face. In the past I haven't focused on faces but realized how much time I like to spend on one face. After the last portrait with the CD glasses I realized that each detail is worth the time. Right now I have chosen to draw an actor from Entourage, Adrian Grenier. I have spent one class so far on it and made progress towards the end of class. It doesn't look anything like what I want it to look like in the end but I see how its already getting there.

Slideshow Feb 6th

I love the way Yang Yongliang installs the artwork. I find this piece very cool because there are so may parts to it making one big picture. I liked it because I thought the size of the cigarette was really cool and the way it hung was very interesting. It really captured my eye when I noticed the pile of ashes were surrounded by flowers. I thought it brought a sense of innocence to a unhealthy habit. I want to try and make objects out of lots of little papers similar to his work.

I was attracted to Polly's work because of the color and design. I can relate to making drawing and paintings kind of similar to her work. I like her use of color and the evolution of shapes that she uses. My favorite thing about her work is how everything leads to one another. It is also rad how she makes artwork on the floor. Her art does a good job of making the viewer happy and bright like her art.

I LOVE Letha Wilson's work. It is so cool how she can take the average nature picture and make it so much more than that. I really love how she incorporate certain shapes with certain photos. She has inspired me to do something like this. I also noticed her work has some illusions to it which is interesting to the viewer.

February 3rd

I love how my face with the CD glasses is turning out. Im ok with how long it has been taking because I have really noticed a difference after I spend lots of time on a certain feature. I am a little bit stuck on the hair though. I may just stick with the way it is in the photo or draw it my own way. I have asked people what I should do and I have heard both that I should draw it my own way and to keep it the same. Not very helpful. I guess I will decide tomorrow!
